Profile Information

School of Communication Studies
Assistant Professor

I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Studies at the University of Tennessee. I started at UT in fall of 2015 after completing my Ph.D. at North Dakota State University in group and organizational communication. I have B.A. degrees in organizational communication and Spanish from Concordia College and completed my M.A. in communication education at the University of Northern Iowa.

My research focuses on issues related to groups and organizations. I am interested especially in how groups handle conflict among members and the role emotions play during conflict episodes. Most of my work looks at relational groups and groups in natural contexts, and most recently I studied the conflict experiences of family farm members and how those experiences impacted the business as a whole. I am also interested in situations where task and relational goals are equally important and the challenges these group members face.

I teach primarily group and organizational communication, and research methods. In the past I have taught courses in agricultural communication, introduction to communication studies, and power and leadership. I enjoy helping students apply theoretical knowledge to real world situations.

In Summer and Fall 2018 I will be teaching CMST 201/207 (Introduction to Communication Studies and Honors)
