After graduating from Communication University of China in 2007 and working for the Associated Press TV News in Beijing for one year, Rachel decided to come to UT and learn more about mass communication in the U.S. During two years of study at UT, Rachel developed research interests in Chinese media company structure and Chinese media law. At the same time, Rachel worked for College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources(CASNR) at UT as a visual recruiter, directed, shoot, and edited 12 promotional videos, including campus tour, Knoxville tour, application instruction and videos for each department. For her master project, Rachel worked on College of Communication and Information(CCI) Study Abroad website. Working closely with Director of Internationalization and Outreach Program(IOP) Dr. Sam Swan and CCI IT administrator Cindy Lancaster, Rachel re-designed the IOP website and developed it into a student-oriented, user-friendly study abroad website. She also directed, shoot and edited two study abroad promotional videos, which are embed on the website: http://www.cci.utk.edu/studyabroad. In 2008, Rachel went back to China during the Olympic Games and worked for the Associated Press in the Main Press Center. After experiencing this massive "media gathering party" and this opening-up trend in China, her home country, Rachel made the decision to carry on with her research involving China in her Ph.D studies and provide reference for the world to better understand China in the future.
