Joan R. Rentsch, Professor of Communication Studies and Director of the Organizational Research Laboratory at The University of Tennessee, earned her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Maryland and her B.S. in Psychology from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Rentsch studies psychological processes in organizations focusing on communication and cognition in teams and organizations and on the measurement of cognition. Her published research appears in such journals as Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Academy of Management Journal, and Organizational Research Methods. She is on the editorial boards of Journal of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management Review. The Office of Naval Research, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division, Air Force Research Laboratory, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Air Force Office of Scientific Research have funded her research. She has served on Senior Advisory Panels for the Army Research Institute to advise the Leadership Development Research Unit regarding its research program on Leading Multinational Teams and to advise the Organizational Performance Unit.

Dr. Rentsch is a member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Academy of Management.

BS degree in Psychology from the Ohio State University
MA and PhD degrees in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Maryland.
