Inside CCI Content and Submission Guidelines

About Inside CCI

 Inside CCI is an electronic publication collected, edited and distributed by the college’s information specialist for the benefit of faculty, staff, students and friends of the college.

The newsletter welcomes submissions from students, faculty and staff regarding upcoming events, honors, research and other news pertinent to the college and its mission. More detailed information regarding submissions is included in the content and submission guidelines.

Publication Schedule

Inside CCI is published weekly, usually by 11 a.m. ET Friday during the spring and fall academic semesters. Publication drops to biweekly during the summer session.

Distribution

Inside CCI is sent to subscribers of three of the college listservs (CCI-FACSTAFF, CCI-LIST and CCI-BOV) and selected administrators via e-mail. It is also posted on the college’s Web site at http://www.cci.utk.edu.

Content Guidelines

Items for Inside CCI may include, but are not limited to lectures; events; student, faculty and staff achievements; special guests and visitors; unit initiatives; grant opportunities; research grant awards; gifts and scholarships; new organizational memberships and affiliations; new faculty and staff announcements; recognition of faculty research and publications; classroom innovations; exhibits; presentations featuring student or faculty work; technology updates; events/calendar items; and any information deemed necessary for inclusion by the dean of the college (i.e. policy changes, revised forms, special recognition, etc.).

Items for Inside CCI must also adhere to basic news values; for example, items must be timely and be important to and impact readers.

It is the responsibility of the item contributor to notify the Inside CCI editor if any pertinent detail changes after the first publication of that item, so it can be corrected in the subsequent edition of Inside CCI.

Special Events Information

All events listed in Inside CCI should be sponsored by university faculty, staff, students, academic departments, administrative units or university-recognized clubs or interest groups. Occasionally, events not sponsored by the college that still directly affect and promote its mission (such as the annual Front Page Follies or the UT Science Forum) will be included.

Event submissions must include: type of event, location (building and room number), date and time, name of groups or academic units sponsoring the event, RSVP deadlines, cost associated, contact name, phone number and e-mail address.

Event submissions will not be published more than one month before the RSVP deadline for an event in the fall and spring semesters and no more than two months prior to the event while Inside CCI is on biweekly publication during the summer.

Events without an RSVP deadline will be added to the newsletter no more that one month before the event date during weekly publication and two months prior during biweekly publication. Information about the event will run for two weeks or at the discretion of the editor.

Submission Guidelines

To submit an item, e-mail it to April Moore, Inside CCI editor, at amoore9 (AT) utk.edu before 9 a.m. on the Friday of publication.

The editor reserves the right to edit all listings for space and content considerations. Submissions of more than 100 words will be printed in full online, however, due to space considerations, news items of more than 100 words will be edited in the e-mail version and linked to the online site. The editor also reserves the right to reject announcements that do not meet the outlined criterion or to recommend other communications vehicles for promotion.
