Dr. Legg Wins BEA Award for Documentary
By: Eddie Jenkins
Dr. Bob Legg, an assistant professor in the School of Journalism and Electronic Media, won an Award of Excellence (second place) in the BEA Festival of Media Arts for his documentary The Long March.
"It is a great honor because there was a huge number of contributors to the festival," Dr. Legg said. "For us to win that award is validation for the type of students and the quality of work we have here at UT."
The Long March is an episodic documentary that takes a look at civil rights in America. The award winning first episode focuses on the march from Selma, Ala. that marked the political and emotional peak of the American civil rights movement.
University of Tennessee students Josh Richard, who graduated last year, and Tre Birney, senior, helped Dr. Legg with the production of the documentary.
Subsequent episodes of the series will take a look into the women of the civil rights movement.
The Long March also won an award at Docum Fest in Romania as well as an Accolade Award.
