--College commencement ceremony set for May 9
The College of Communication and Information commencement ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 9 at the Knoxville Convention Center in Exhibit Hall A.

--School awards scholarships at annual convocation
The School of Advertising and Public Relations presented awards to its top students Monday, April 21 at its annual Honors Convocation. The event was held in the University Center Ballroom and honored more than 30 students.

INFORMATION SCIENCES
--Tenopir keynote focuses on e-journals, reading patterns
Carol Tenopir presented the keynote talk at the annual user group meeting of VTLS Inc., a global company that creates library automation software. Tenopir spoke about her ongoing research on "How E-Journals are Changing Scholarly Reading Patterns" at the event, which was held April 24 on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg.

JOURNALISM AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA
--JEM students receive scholarships
The School of Journalism and Electronic Media presented 2008-2009 academic year scholarship awards to outstanding students Monday, April 21 at the JEM Honors Convocation.
--Photojournalism students receive honors
Two of Rob Heller's advanced photojournalism students received good news this week. Adam Brimer, a member of last year's advanced photojournalism class, will assist legendary Sports Illustrated photographer Heinz Klutmeier at the Kentucky Derby this weekend. Katie Hogin, a current student in the class, has been accepted into the Danish School of Journalism Photojournalism program for the fall semester. She is one of only eight students worldwide who participating in the program.
--Student news site seeks input for upcoming special section
The staff of the Tennessee Journalist, the news Web site of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media, is putting together a special section for incoming freshmen this summer. If you have ideas or know of ways that you or your students can contribute to this effort, please get in touch with the summer editor-in-chief Shannon Petrie at spetrie(at)utk.edu.
--Luther will present work at international conference
Catherine Luther will present her paper entitled, "Rhetoric of Terror and the Promulgation of U.S. Policies," at the Human Condition Series International Conference on Terror. The conference will take place May 2-3 in Ontario, Canada.

CENTER FOR INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION STUDIES
--Technical editor joins genome management project team
Holly Haun joined the Genome Management Information System (GMIS) project team at ORNL last month as a technical editor. Two other Center for Information and Communication Studies employees, Marissa Mills and Kris Christen, are also part of the GMIS project team.
