ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

--Journal of Advertising publishes paper by McMillan
"Evaluation of internet advertising research: A bibliometric analysis of citations from key sources," by Juran Kim (PhD '06) and Sally McMillan, has been published in the Journal of Advertising. The study addresses how scholarly research has shaped the Internet advertising field since the mid-1990s through a bibliometric analysis of academic literature on Internet advertising.

--Fall presents research at travel and tourism conference
Lisa Fall presented "Using Public Relations Segmentation for Audience Analysis: Differentiating Travel Behaviors Among Generational Cohorts" at the Southeastern Travel and Tourism Research Association's Annual Conference on Tuesday, April 1 at The Grove Park Inn located in Asheville, NC.

--Journal selects Morrison as "Reviewer of the Year" finalist
Margie Morrison has been selected as a finalist for "Reviewer of the Year" for the Journal of Advertising. The Journal of Advertising is the premier journal devoted to the development of advertising theory and its relationship to practice. The major purpose of the journal is to provide a public forum where ideas about advertising can be expressed.

INFORMATION SCIENCES

--Study by Tenopir appears in April 2008 ASIS&T journal
"Finding and Using Journal Article Components: Impacts of Disaggregation on Teaching and Research Practice" by Robert Sandusky, Carol Tenopir, and Margaret Casado has been published in the April 2008 edition of the Journal of the American Society for Information Science & Technology.

--SIS honors Bill Robinson's career
The School of Information Sciences will sponsor a retirement party for Dr. Bill Robinson from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 3 at the UT Visitors Center. RSVP to Linda Sherman at lsherman(at)utk.edu or (865) 974-7916 to attend. SIS also invites you to contribute your remembrances of "Dr. Bill." The school will compile the responses into a memory book which will be presented to Robinson at his retirement party. Submit your favorite memories of Robinson to Joel Southern at jsouthern(at)utk.edu or post them on a student-created blog.

JOURNALISM AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA

--Photojournalism students have "Eyes on LaFollette"
Rob Heller and his advanced photojournalism class are spending Friday, April 3 in LaFollette, Tenn. working on the 11th edition of "Eyes on LaFollette." Started in 1993, this is the longest continuously running project of its kind in the country. Students will spend all day today and part of tomorrow documenting life in the small town north of Knoxville. A special section of the LaFollette Press newspaper will feature the students' work.

--Bates, visiting scholars to present research on journalism in China
Three papers coauthored by Ben Bates and visiting scholars from China have been accepted for presentation at the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) conference in July in Stockholm, Sweden. Two of the papers, "Copyright in China: Implementation Issues in Electronic Media" and "From Political Risk to Grass-roots Enlightenment: Fostering Citizen Consciousness through Environmental Reporting in China," are coauthored by Tao Liu and Bates. The third, "Civic Journalism in China and the Democratization Process: A Case Study," is coauthored by Chuzhi Wang and Bates.

Registration is now open for eligible students who wish to participate in the College of Communication and Information Spring/Summer 2008 Commencement Ceremony. Students must RSVP online by Friday, April 25. The event will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 9, in the Knoxville Convention Center.
