ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
-- Ad students secure paid internships in NYC for the upcoming summer
Five UT advertising students received and accepted paid internship offers for summer 2008 with major New York advertising agencies as a result of the recent annual advertising student professional development trip to NYC. Nathan Morrow, TJ Fletcher, Lindsay Reynolds, and Amanda Sherrod will intern at Y&R. Jaclyn Gonzales will intern at Publicis. Several other trip participants are actively interviewing for internships at Lowe, McCann Erickson, MTV, and Hill Holliday. This was the 16th annual UT Ad Student NYC Professional Development trip. During the 5-day event, students visited advertising-related companies in the city to get a behind-the-scenes look at the advertising world.
-- Ad/PR doctoral students to present paper at ICA
School of Advertising and Public Relations doctoral candidates Yoon-Joo Lee and Sora Kim will present their paper, "Media Framing in Corporate Social Responsibility: A Korea US Comparative Study," to the PR division of International Communication Association at its May conference in Montreal. Dr. Eric Haley, professor of advertising, was a co-author of the paper.
-- Journal accepts article by Haley and doctoral candidates for publication
The research article, "Does Consumers' Product-Related Involvement Matter When It Comes to Corporate Ads?" by AD/PR doctoral candidate Sora Kim along with Eric Haley and doctoral candidate Yoon-Joo Lee has been accepted for publication in The Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising.
--Article by doctoral alumnus and Haley to be published in marketing communications journal
The article, "The Influence of Advertising Context on Perceptions of Offensiveness," by CCI doctoral alumnus Tim Christy and professor Eric Haley has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Marketing Communications.
-- Professors present results of account planning study at American Academy of Advertising Conference
Eric Haley, Ron Taylor, and Margaret Morrison will present the results of their study, "How Advertising Creatives Define Effective Account Planning," at the upcoming annual conference of the American Academy of Advertising in San Mateo, Calif. in March. Taylor recently presented the results of the study to advertising creatives at Saatchi and Saatchi Health Care in New York.

-- Luther, co-authors present two papers at upcoming conferences
Catherine Luther and CCI PhD alumnae and co-authors Carolynn McMahan, University of North Florida, and Tiffany Shoop, Shenandoah University, have had two papers accepted at international conferences. The papers and the conferences at which they will be presented are
- "Depictions of Men and Women in Advertisements Featured in American Fashion Magazines," International Academy of Business Disciplines conference, Houston, April 3-5.
- "Depictions of Women and Men in Advertisements Featured in Japanese Fashion Magazines," International Communication Association conference, Montreal, Canada, May 22-26.

CENTER FOR INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION STUDIES
-- Center submits IMLS grant proposal on behalf of Wang
The Center for Information and Communication Studies recently submitted a grant proposal to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) of behalf of Peiling Wang. The goal of Wang's proposed study is to create personalize-able intelligent and affective scaffolding tools to empower individual learners in their natural learning settings and task contexts for using digital information resources and systems.
-- Forum announces revised speaker schedule
The speaker line-up for the college's brown bag research forum has been revised. Michael Palenchar will now present "Secret Persuaders: Ethical, Legal and Rhetorical Perspectives on the Use of Public Relations Front Groups" at the March 10 forum. Peter Gross will present "Media in Central Asia" on April 14.
