MESSAGE 1 - INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

THE DAILY BEACON is now accepting applications from UT students for Classified Advisor positions beginning Fall. Assist customers in placement of classified ads. Must have excellent phone and keyboarding skills. Shifts available: 8-11am, 11-2pm, 2-5pm Monday- Friday. Must be able to work same shift each day. Applications available in Room 11 Comm. Bldg. THE UT OFFICE OF PUBLIC RELATIONS is taking applications for unpaid and paid interns for the Fall 2005 and Spring 2006 semesters. Students interested in a UT public relations internship should have passed at least two of the three following courses with a final grade of at least "C": Advertising 250, Journalism 200 and Public Relations 270.

Applications for an internship should include a copy of your university transcript, a resume with cover letter, and writing samples.

MESSAGE FOR ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS - FALL 2005

ADVISING FOR SPRING SEMESTER REGISTRATION. The University has implemented a one time a year required advising for students who have earned 30 or more hours at UTK.  Those who have earned fewer than 30 hours or are on academic review will continue to be advised each semester.

Students with ID numbers ending in an even digit are required to meet with an advisor this semester.  The 0 digit is considered even. Please outline an academic plan for both spring and fall 2006.  Students with ID numbers ending in an odd digit have required advising in the spring.  It's important to remember that the new policy does not place a LIMIT on advising for students.  You are encouraged to consult with an advisor at any point during a term or academic year.

We encourage every student to attend advising every semester. You must attend an advising session to be cleared to register. ADVERTISING 490 IN THE SPRING: Advertising 490, Account Planning, is being offered in the spring for advertising seniors and graduate students. This course may be used to fulfill your communication elective requirement. A brief description of the course is as follows: This course heavily focuses on uncovering insights needed for great advertising strategy. Account planners are the consumers voice in an ad agency. They interact with the client, account management, and creative teams to develop advertising that is meaningful and relevant. To achieve this, account planners need to know how to obtain valid information from consumers that will make advertising campaigns successful. You will examine what account planning is and how it works within the industry. Additionally, you will acquire skills that planners need in research, insight generation and creative briefing.

YOU'RE INVITED TO ADVERTISING 470 CAMPAIGNS PRESENTATIONS

Advertising campaigns presentations will take place this Thursday, December 1st, from 5:00pm-7:45pm in the UC Crest Room. Come and see the creative ways your peers have come up with to sell 15,000 Smart ForTwos for their client ZAP (hint: it's a really cool car!). Compare your scores with a panel of faculty judges. And most of all, get a taste of what advertising campaigns are all about. Presentations will take place in the following order:

Panda Strong: 5:00-5:30pm

Party of 5: 5:45-6:15pm

Full Boat: 6:30-7:00pm

Marketing Masters: 7:15-7:45pm

You will not be allowed in if a presentation has started. Use this schedule to plan accordingly. Hope to see you there!

MESSAGE FOR PUBLIC RELATIONS MAJORS - FALL 2005

Job Title: Assistant Account Coordinator

Ideal candidate should:

-have a bachelor's degree in Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations or other related major;-be organized and detail oriented: have good editing/proofreading skills; have some working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Quark or InDesign (notrequired, but a plus); have knowledge of Excel; have a polite nature and positive attitude; have ability to multi-task and prioritize; be proactive and self directed

Primary job duties:

-media contact research and media pitching (this will be a large focus)

-editing/proofreading both copy and graphics (press releases, brochures, ads, etc.)

-copy writing and graphic design (small in-house assignments, would probably mostly help on coordinating these with a printer/designer)

-compiling data and organizing into spreadsheets (i.e. ad budgets, profit sheets, media impressions, timing and action, etc.)

-assistance with event planning and travel coordination for client events

-assistance with media purchasing and coordination

-press clipping and cataloging

**We are really putting a lot of emphasis on finding someone very self-directed and proactive, who can anticipate needs rather than always waiting to be assigned tasks.
