Executive Education
Certificate in Internal Communication and Information Management
Overview
Understanding is key.
Many managers rise to their positions because of technical expertise while having little experience or education in the critical communication and information skills that are required of effective managers.
They don’t understand.
The executive education program offered by the faculty of the College of Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee will enhance the ability of these managers to communicate in an information age. The program will lead to a certificate in internal communication and information management.
They will understand.
The certificate will be presented in a series of modules that are all built on a four-part framework:
- Vision – A set of clear goals, objectives, and expected learning outcomes.
- Observations – Insights from the literature that provide context and concepts of the topic.
- Lessons – Applying observations to real-life situations.
- Synthesis – Making sense of the material and assessing the learning experience.
The certificate program will begin with a three-day seminar held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, followed by 10 weeks of online training (conducted asynchronously using Blackboard technology), and conclude with another three-day seminar at UT. The Vision for most modules will be introduced in the opening seminar. Online training will focus on Observations and Lessons. The final three-day seminar will focus primarily on Synthesis.
They will be understood.
