Civil Rights Leader to be Honored at CCI's Diversity Banquet

Rev. Dr. Harold MiddlebrookThe College of Communication and Information will honor the Rev. Harold Middlebrook—a pastor and Civil rights activist who worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr.—with the CCI Diversity Award at the college’s ninth annual Experience Diversity Banquet on Friday.

The banquet will be held at 7 p.m. at Buddy’s Banquet Hall in Knoxville. The banquet is a key fundraiser for CCI Diversity Student Leaders Society field trips and other activities students have the opportunity to participate in throughout the year.

Masters Endows Jackson Professorship in UT School of Advertising and PR

DeForrest JacksonWith a gift of $500,000, Suzanne S. Masters, a 1989 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville's School of Advertising and Public Relations, has established the DeForrest Jackson Endowed Professorship, named after her favorite professor.  

The gift, tied for the second largest ever received by UT's College of Communication and Information, creates the first professorship for the School of Advertising and Public Relations. 

Reading Expert: Books for Kids of All Ages to Celebrate Black History Month

Cindy WelchSIS Clinical Associate Professor Cindy Welch produced a list of recommended books for children and young adults in conjunction with the UTK Office of Communications and Marketing. The following is an exerpt from the article:

Kids of all ages can celebrate Black History Month through books that explore rich contributions that have been made by African Americans.

CCI Top 100 Graduate Fellowship Program

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville Graduate School has initiated the Top 100 Graduate Fellowship Program 

The College of Communication and Information has been awarded several of these prestigious Graduate Fellowship positions to be awarded to top incoming PhD students. 

We will review applications received by February 1, 2017.  APPLY NOW!  

CCI PhD students awarded a Top 100 Graduate Fellowship will receive an additional stipend amount, will be supported with travel funds, will work with world-class CCI faculty, will work in CCI cutting edge facilities, and will participate in a cohort of Top 100 Graduate Fellows from across campus.
